19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from March of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional title, took control to create a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early opportunities in a close third set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
